New Music Friday - November 18

This week’s New Music Friday features new album releases from Neil Young & Crazy Horse, Weyes Blood, Caitlin Rose, BROCKHAMPTON, and Disturbed. Happy listening!

“Walkin’ On The Road (To The Future)” by Neil Young with Crazy Horse

Album: World Record

Description:

“The new album from Neil Young, back together with Crazy Horse for their 14th studio recording, is a continuation of the stripped down style and ecological themes of 2021’s superlative Barn. While that was a clear-eyed, immediate and exciting collection, World Record is a hastier, even more disparate set of songs. Like its predecessor it doesn’t waste much time on pleasing arrangements, layered instrumentation, or careful craft. That’s not to say it’s slap-dash, more that it’s alive, wired, and sometimes inspired.“

“God Turn Me Into a Flower” by Weyes Blood

Album: And in the Darkness, Hearts Aglow

Description:

“‘Written while Mering was locked down in LA with her dog Luigi, ‘And In The Darkness, Hearts Aglow’ deftly avoids touching on the pandemic directly with clumsy references that would rapidly date. Instead, a vaguer, more ominous sense of isolation casts a shadow over the whole record, though the ache of loss is quickly met by an urgent longing for togetherness. Mering’s apparent take on heartbreak seems to be quietly optimistic: a broken heart being a symbol that somebody was vulnerable enough, bold enough, brave enough to open themselves to pain in the first place.”

“Modern Dancing” by Caitlin Rose

Album: CAZIMI

Description:

“While the characters on CAZIMI aren’t always at peace, it sounds like Rose is. Even as she experiments with new sounds, textures and situations, the country-rock queen remains a reliable source of genuine stories. Who knows when or if we’ll get another Caitlin Rose album, but it’s clear that no matter what direction her career takes, Rose will stick to her guns—even if that means racing confidently toward the sun.“

“NEW SHOES” by BROCKAMPTON

Album: The Family

Description:

“Boasting one of the most consistent and impressive rap catalogues in recent memory BROCKHAMPTON cemented themselves as one of the most innovative, hard-working and influential groups of the 2010s. Though in bittersweet fashion, we were promised one final record from the boyband – which has finally arrived, which feels just as poignant as the initial announcement itself. ‘The Family’ is the final chapter in the book of BROCKHAMPTON – and it is a perfect ending.”

“Bad Man” by Disturbed

Album: Divisive

Description:

“As one of rock radio’s most enduring bands, it’s seemingly impossible for DISTURBED to crank an album out that doesn’t feature at least a handful of chart-toppers. The Chicago-bred hard rock band’s eighth full-length record, “Divisive”, has already scored DISTURBED their 15th No. 1 single at rock radio with the anthemic “Hey You”. Listening to the rest of “Divisive”, one finds at least a handful of other potential hits, all following that carefully crafted DISTURBED formula of sharp, fast riffing, pulsating rhythms and choppy, fiery vocals.“
