New Music Friday – June 10 2022

This week's New Music Friday features new album releases from George Ezra, Neneh Cherry, Chase & Status, Carrie Underwood, and Sinead O'Brien. Happy listening!

"Dance All Over Me" George Ezra

Album: Gold Rush Kid

Gold Rush Kid gets better the further it moves away from the standard blueprint, into emotional territory that, if it isn’t exactly dark (happily for him, Ezra seems to inhabit a world where every problem comes with a resolution) is certainly more overcast.
The Guardian

"Woman" by Neneh Cherry ft ANOHNI

Album: The Versions

A consistently interesting set that reminds you that Neneh Cherry didn’t just come up with visionaries like The Slits and Massive Attack, but truly became one in her own right.

"Hold Your Ground" by Chase & Status ft Ethan Holt

Album: What Came Before

It may feel like more of a mixtape, but the lack of cohesiveness on What Came Before can be forgiven. Chase & Status remind you of the true dance and D&B legends they are, with tracks worthy of any dancefloor interspersed between furious grime and vicious jungle.
Loud and Quiet

"Burn" by Carrie Underwood

Album: Demin & Rhinestones

The album is more garish than anything she’s released before, and the sound truly integrates the imagery of flashy jean jackets and dripping jewelry.
Riff Magazine

"Like Culture" by Sinead O'Brien

Album: Time Bend And Break The Bower

Though inspired by the endless waiting felt during the moving statues phenomenon in ‘80s Ireland, where religious statues reportedly moved spontaneously, there’s no anticipation for a holy punk apparition here. Everything we could have expected with ‘Time Bends and Break the Bower’ has been delivered.
